Where Will the Rest of 2026 Take You

“There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature.” – Rachel Carson
Reset Your Senses
Here at Siddhartha, we know that rest doesn’t always mean standing still. Sometimes it’s the creative reset that comes from experiencing something new, immersing yourself in another culture, discovering an underwater world you’ve never seen before, and returning home with memories that continue to inspire long after your holiday is over. At other times, what you need is a mental rest, a break from overstimulation and the peace that comes from being in nature, surrounded by the warm, clear, tropical sea.
Being close to the ocean can feel deeply restorative. Scientists often speak about the Blue Mind, the calming, energizing state that comes from spending time in, on, or beside the water. Perhaps that’s why so many of us feel a little lighter and a lot happier by the coast. A dive among vibrant reefs, an afternoon snorkelling above colorful fish, or simply watching the horizon from the seafront as we listen to the waves lapping at the shore all have a remarkable way of clearing the mind and renewing the spirit.
As the year unfolds, perhaps now is the perfect moment to begin imagining where your next adventure will take you. Whether you’re dreaming of an autumn getaway, a diving holiday, or somewhere warm to spend the final months of the year or welcome in the new one, this is a wonderful time to begin planning what adventures you want to embark on. And if your footsteps lead you to this side of the world, we’ll be waiting for you with open arms.

Celebrating Indonesia’s Independence Day – Community, Pride & Togetherness
On August 17th, Indonesia celebrates the anniversary of its proclamation of independence from the Netherlands on the 17th of August 1945, one of the country’s most joyful and meaningful national holidays.
Across Bali and on every other island, villages and towns are decorated with banners, streamers, and balloons in the red and white colors of the Indonesian flag. The streets become livelier than usual as communities gather for traditional games, friendly competitions, school performances, and all sorts of festive celebrations that bring neighbors of every generation together.
These festivities are a reflection of a beautiful Indonesian value known as gotong royong, the spirit of working together for the benefit of the community. It is a philosophy woven into everyday life throughout the archipelago, reflected in every aspect of Balinese life, from preparing for ceremonies together, to managing the subak irrigation system that ensures water reaches every corner of every rice field, maintaining temples and supporting neighbors, and celebrating important milestones together.
Guests visiting during this time will see flags everywhere and may even catch glimpses of celebrations and kids’ street parades in Kubu and the surrounding villages, offering a wonderful opportunity to experience another side of Bali beyond its famous beaches and temples.
It’s a reminder that Indonesia’s greatest treasures go far beyond the extraordinary landscapes and natural wonders. It’s in the warmth, generosity, and strong sense of community shared by its people, and in the rich culture and national pride that they’re gracious enough to share with us.
International Whale Shark Day- the Gentle Giants of the Sea
On August 30th, we celebrate one of the ocean’s most awe-inspiring residents: the whale shark. As the world’s largest fish, whale sharks can grow to well over 12 meters in length, sometimes even to 18 meters, yet they feed almost exclusively on tiny plankton and are renowned for their calm, gentle nature. These magnificent animals are found in several parts of Indonesia, making the archipelago an important region for whale shark conservation.
Despite their size, whale sharks face growing threats from loss of food sources, entanglement in discarded fishing gear, becoming bycatch of the industrial fishing industry, vessel strikes, and pollution. Like so many marine species, their future depends on healthy ocean ecosystems and coordinated conservation efforts.
Responsible marine tourism plays an important role in protecting these incredible animals.
Observing wildlife respectfully, maintaining a safe distance, supporting ethical operators, and safeguarding the habitats they depend upon all help ensure that future generations can continue to experience the wonder of seeing these gentle giants in the wild.
Every encounter with these magnificent creatures, as with any of the ocean’s other treasures, reminds us how interconnected the survival of all marine species is. They all play a critical role in the ocean ecosystem, from the tiniest shrimp to the largest fish, and that is why protecting the ocean’s balance matters. The healthier our seas, the more extraordinary marine life they can continue to support, and the more we can enjoy them today and always.
Beneath the surface, this commitment continues through the Kubu Marine Park initiative. Working closely with our team and the local community, we support the ocean through educational events, beach and village clean-ups, and the continued development of our artificial reef.
What began as a dream has grown into a thriving house reef just off our shore, an underwater sanctuary where new corals can grow and marine life can flourish. Since 2011, we have continued expanding the reef, adding everything from repurposed man-made materials to statues and construction blocks that serve as anchors for new life.
Now stretching more than 100 meters, Kubu Marine Park is not only for our guests to enjoy, but for everyone who calls this island home, every diver who explores these waters, and future generations who deserve to experience a living, breathing reef. On World Oceans Day, and every day, we are reminded that every action, no matter how small, can help protect something much bigger.
